Nutrition scientist and dietitian Dr Joanna McMillan shares her Kickstarter Smoothie recipe
Packed with probiotics and prebiotics, this smoothie will help to kickstart your morning and your gut health!
Probiotics help to maintain a healthy gut by restoring the balance of good bacteria in your digestive tract, whereas prebiotics are commonly special types of fibre that stimulate the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut.
According to Dr Jo, prebiotics “are found in lots of fruits and vegetables like artichoke, garlic, onion and asparagus, bananas, apples and wholegrains like barley and oats. These fibres can’t be digested, so they pass through the digestive system and essentially become dinner [or breakfast!] for our good bacteria.”Dr Jo’s Kickstarter Smoothie has vegan-friendly live kombucha cultures + probiotics from the Gut Shot, whilst the blend of fibre rich plants foods are going to fuel those healthy bacteria that we need.
As well as spiking this smoothie with probiotics, MOJO’s Gut Shot Ginger Spice is also crammed full of pure organic ginger juice which adds a nice tingly, tangy heat.
Give this gingery green gut-friendly smoothie a go!
